I WAS THE DRUMMER During High School, I began playing drums, and soon started a successful rock band in Des Moines, Iowa. We competed in battle of the bands and often won first place. We also performed at the hottest local teen venues and were spotlighted on a popular local TV talent show. We felt we had the world by the tail… but deep inside, something was missing in my life. After graduation I joined the Marine Corps and within months was sent to the war in Vietnam. While serving in the military, I drank, partied, took drugs, and lived an immoral life. My desire was to be a famous rock star, so I attended every music concert possible and was totally immersed in the Rock ‘n Roll scene and the sinful and decadent lifestyle surrounding it. While stationed in California, I was invited to a movie star celebrity party, and there I observed people from that industry who were empty like me. Something was missing in their lives, and I realized they too were lost…void inside and struggling to find unconditional love, and real meaning for life (although they would probably never admit it). One day while I was hitchhiking in San Clemente California, a young ex-hippie stopped to give me a ride. He asked my name, and told me his, then asked… “Do you know Jesus?” I was struck by his inquiry, but said, “Yes.” Then suddenly, for the first time in my life, I sensed God speaking to my heart, saying…” You don’t know Him… you only know about Him.” That was a revelation to me, and right then, in my heart, I said, “this is what I want.” Immediately, I felt a supernatural powerful and tangible relief from the unseen dark force that was oppressing my life. The oppression I was living under lifted off me in a flash, and the tangible life, joy, peace, love, grace, and goodness of God filled my spirit and soul. As this was transpiring, I immediately realized something wonderful had taken place inside my heart, and my life would never be the same again. I had surrendered my life to Jesus Christ. This genuine relationship with God was the missing link. Now I had assurance of His unmerited love, peace, joy, and eternal life. When Jesus Christ came into my life my desires and goals changed. He rescued me from the grip of bandage of my sinful and addictive lifestyle; a lifestyle that was leading me on a path to complete destruction, misery, and eternal death. Are you looking for your purpose and fulfillment in things that are lifeless, vain, destructive, immoral, empty, and unsatisfying? Like my past experience, is something missing in your life? You can have the full assurance of your salvation and eternal citizenship in heaven when you die. You can know Jesus Christ and experience His amazing love and grace today! Do not take this message lightly! God loves you. He is now speaking to your heart to give you this moment and opportunity to choose your eternal destiny. Jesus Christ came into this world to give His sinless life on the cross for our sins. He died, was buried, and resurrected to redeem you and bring you to God and His Kingdom. He wants to be your Savior, Lord, King, and eternal Friend. The Bible says, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 6:23 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16 \\ As I did, you can turn from your sinful lifestyle, and accept Jesus Christ today. Surrender your life to Him and find the missing ‘reality’ your heart has longed to know and experience! SET FREE! My grandparent’s house was a warm and loving place – a secure place. My parents had divorced – my mother had left for parts unknown, leaving my sister and I with my grandparents for the next year and a half. Through these circumstances, Satan had set a trap for me. My grandfather was English, and my grandmother was Scottish and Irish with a druid background. Evenings at their house were always pleasant, usually playing with a Ouija board, checkers, or being entertained by grandma levitating the huge mahogany dining room table. I was fascinated to watch her place her hands, palms down, on the table levitating it a couple of feet off the ground in a dancing-like motion. Although my grandparents were good and loving, they were not Christians, never teaching us about God or attending church. Satan had set a snare for my soul! For the next 26 years, I would search for purpose and meaning for my life. Something was missing, and I searched many avenues to find the answer with no results – just dead ends. I thought education was the answer, so I studied. My quest for knowledge and purpose led me to read the Book of Mormon, study with the Jehovah’s Witnesses, contemplate Zen Buddhism, dabble in witchcraft, and even send hexes and curses on people I found to be a problem. Still empty, all the while regularly attending a nominal Christian church for 16 years, I found no answers there, either. One Sunday night, while my husband La Vern and I were youth leaders of a well-attended First Christian Church youth group, the subject came up of seances. Sounded like a good topic for next week’s meeting. Surprisingly, even though they could bring reports or information on the subject, most brought their Bibles. At some point that evening, I decided to levitate the big round table where I was sitting. The “power” that night was strong. I placed my hands palms down in the center of the table. I paused, I hesitated, then took my hands off the table. The kids laughed and teased me, knowing I could not do it. Determinedly I placed my palms again on the table. I just couldn’t do it, it was a crossroads, I made a major decision that night, a deciding factor in my life. I just felt like I shouldn’t do it. I began to have serious depression, even contemplating suicide. No hope! Then in the fall of 1970, I cried out to God, “If You are real, help me!” Early Christmas morning, God miraculously manifested Himself to me. God came down and showered me with His presence and so much love. I was surrounded, and literally engulfed in His love for me and the entire world. I wanted to get up on the roof top and shout, “World! God loves you!” In the Spring of 1972, having spent 20 years fulfilling the faithful role of Christianity, La Vern was baptized with the Holy Ghost and fire! He truly became a ‘new creature’ in Christ! An utterly new and different man! I was so excited about his changes; I yearned for the same. It was the 4th of July, a fun time for our family with a lot of celebration. My mother was extremely upset, because I chose to go to a nearby ministry run by James Brown called the ‘Lord’s House’ instead. I so wanted the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, and was disappointed to learn James wasn’t there that night. Neva Perry was there from Missouri, ministering in the Word of Knowledge and Gifts of the Holy Spirit. After ministering, she asked if anyone wanted prayer. I went up for prayer and sat in a chair with her standing behind me. I asked her a very real and important question. “Is witchcraft against God?” As she began to pray for me, suddenly I experienced a low stirring in my belly. Something began to move upward. It felt like a cat being pulled upward by the tail, claws out, scratching all the way up and out through my mouth. The pain was fierce! Moments later, this was repeated. Then suddenly, the demonic stronghold was broken from over my life, and I was completely delivered! JESUS, MY SAVIOUR, HAD SET ME FREE!!! Following my new-found freedom, I soon received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit as recorded in the book of Acts chapters 2,8,10, and 19. Without any doubt, there is one thing I know and have experienced, there are two very real worlds – one physical and one spiritual. There are also two realms in the spiritual world, good and evil, light and darkness, righteousness, and unrighteousness. When I chose Christ and the Kingdom of God, Jesus set me free.
